There are plenty of easy hikes near Asheville, suitable for travelers of all skill levels, allowing them to appreciate the stunning mountain environment.
No matter your interests, try to set aside time during your visit to Asheville to drive a portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway, especially if you're there in the fall to witness the changing colors. Often regarded as one of the most beautiful road trips in the United States, it's a sight you won't want to miss.

Make sure to set aside time for a ghost tour to explore the mystical side of the city (even if you're not superstitious, I promise it's worth it!), and a bayou tour to experience the incredible landscapes of southern Louisiana.
While it's easy to have a blast in New Orleans, you can also add depth to your trip by considering a day trip to places like the Whitney Plantation to learn about the city's dark history or take a Katrina-themed tour to understand the serious impact of the 2005 hurricane.

Even if you're not a history buff, these sites can still offer a fascinating way to spend your time. Beach lovers should also make time to visit nearby Folly Beach!

Art lovers will have a blast in Chicago, with many museums to explore. One of the best is the amazing Art Institute of Chicago. Baseball fans can catch a Cubs game at the famous Wrigley Field.
If you love animals and are traveling with your family, head straight to Shedd Aquarium. And for families, don't forget to visit the American Girl Place; it was the highlight of my first trip to Chicago a long time ago!

A weekend trip to Seattle is just the right amount of time to explore Pike Place Market, go up the Space Needle, visit the famous Chihuly Museum, and check out the fun and fascinating Museum of Pop Culture.
If you're looking for interesting neighborhoods, Fremont is the place to go. They even have a motto: "des libertas quirkas," which means "the freedom to be quirky."
And if you want to spend some time outdoors, Seattle is nestled in the heart of the magnificent Pacific Northwest. You'll find endless waterfalls, hiking trails, and mountains, including Mount Rainier, all within a day's trip from Seattle.

Voodoo Doughnuts, which started here and now has a few locations across the country, is also a must-visit for tourists.
During your weekend trip to Portland, be sure to visit the Japanese Garden and the International Rose Garden, especially when everything is in full bloom. Plus, you have easy access to the incredible Columbia River Gorge, including the famous Multnomah Falls, which should definitely be on your list of things to do in Portland!

Whether you're into gambling at the casinos, catching some shows, exploring the less crowded downtown area of Las Vegas, or venturing out to experience the amazing natural wonders of the Southwest, Las Vegas has something for you.
While the famous southern rim of the Grand Canyon is a bit too far for a practical day trip from Las Vegas, there are options like Valley of Fire State Park, Red Rock Canyon, and the Hoover Dam that you can consider.

Foley House Inn: Among all the hotels I've stayed at in Savannah, the Foley House Inn stands out as my favorite. It's absolutely stunning both inside and out, and its prime location on Chippewa Square is hard to beat.
New York City
Exploring all of New York in just one weekend is impossible—actually, it's impossible even in a lifetime. But the fantastic thing about New York City is that regardless of who you are or what you enjoy, whether you want to visit famous places, savor the best food, watch a show or two, or uncover some lesser-known gems, you'll find something fascinating to do.
For tourists seeking the quintessential NYC experience, like we did on our initial visits, a weekend in New York is certainly sufficient to witness all those iconic places we've seen in movies and television shows throughout our lives!
Central Park, Fifth Avenue, Grand Central, Times Square, the Public Library, a Broadway performance or two, a trip to the Top of the Rock or the Empire State Building, and a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge—over the course of a weekend, you can visit all of these attractions and more.
If you have an interest in museums, we also recommend visiting just one (no more, as there's too much else to do!) during your weekend in New York: the Met, MOMA, and the Natural History Museum are all excellent, classic options.

Incredibly beautiful and rich in both American history and its own unique, contemporary culture, Boston is a city that will capture your heart in just a weekend. While you're there, make sure to explore the charming North End, trendy Back Bay, and majestic Beacon Hill—three Boston neighborhoods that are absolute must-sees.
Also, consider taking a leisurely stroll through the Boston Public Garden (one of our favorite spots in the city) and the Boston Common, paying a visit to the penguins at the New England Aquarium, following the Freedom Trail, and embarking on a whale-watching cruise.
Book lovers like us shouldn't miss out on the Boston Public Library (especially the Reading Room on the second floor!) and the Brattle Bookshop. Sports enthusiasts, head straight to Fenway Park for a tour and maybe even catch a game.

Washington DC
Our country's capital city, Washington DC, not only serves as the hub of our national government but also makes for an excellent destination for a weekend getaway in the United States. It's a highly sought-after spot for international visitors planning a trip to the USA!
Visitors interested in museums will find a wide variety of options to explore in Washington DC. There's something for everyone, from the numerous Smithsonian Museums to unique choices like the International Spy Museum and significant sites such as the US Holocaust Memorial Museum and the National Museum of African American History and Culture. There are so many options that you can't possibly see them all in a single weekend.
If you have a passion for US history and government, you'll find plenty to keep you engaged along the National Mall, including iconic landmarks like the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. Food enthusiasts will also relish the city's vibrant culinary scene, with the opportunity to embark on a DC food tour.
Touring the US Capitol is always an intriguing experience, and with proper planning, you might even secure a tour of the White House! While Washington DC has attractions year-round, the cherry blossom season is undoubtedly one of the best and most popular times to visit. As an added bonus, many of the things to do in Washington DC, including all the Smithsonian museums, offer free admission.
